About Our Materials

We use 8125G as our standard material on all our recurve strings.  The 8125G material is an excellent all-round choice for recurve bows.  It delivers a good balance of solid performance, while remaining relatively forgiving to your equipment.

If you have a vintage model of bow then you may need a gentler string like a Nitro Recurve Fast Flight, feel free to raise a query by email if you want to check out what will suit your bow best.

If you have a particular request for a non-standard material, please CONTACT US to find out what colours and types that we have available.

Step One – Tell us your Bow/String Size

We’ve given you some popular bow lengths to choose from straight away in the drop-down menus.  If you have a bow length other than these, then choose the custom option and let us know the size of your bow in the comments box.  We’ve included a table below to help you identify the bow length that you need for various combinations of risers and limbs.

Differences between bow sizes across manufacturers can affect the fit of your string.  If you want to achieve a particular brace height, then this can also affect the length of string that you need.

As a guideline for you, you can find our basic string lengths on the Nitro Strings website, which you can find HERE.  Alternatively, if you know the actual string length that you want, including any adjustments that you have added through twists, then add this to the comments box and we will set out to match it.  If you do this, make sure that you use the term ACTUAL LENGTH next to your measurement so that it’s clear what information you are giving us.

The most accurate way to make sure that you get your best possible string fit, is to give us an actual length of a string that already works for you.  If you don’t know this, tell us the make and model of BOTH your riser AND your limbs in the comments box.  We can then make the relevant adjustments to our standard length, if they are needed, to put you in a good place for you to start finding your perfect set-up.

If there is anything that you think might be relevant to your string length, feel free to add it to the comments box, it’s better to include too much than miss something out.  You are welcome to contact us by email if you have any queries, or if you want to send any extra information.

Reference Table:

Please Note: - The lengths specified below are for the bow length and NOT the absolute string length. When ordering your string and putting information in the comments box, please be clear if you are telling us the BOW LENGTH, or giving us an ACTUAL length.

Different manufacturers use differing naming conventions for their limbs, most use the length of the limb, 66, 68 or 70, while a few manufacturers use either a Short, Medium or Long designation. The total length of your bow can usually be found on the rear of the limb where the limb attaches to the riser.

Step Two – Choose your colours

You’ll see the colour selection for your chosen material in the drop down menu.   If you want a two-tone string, then choose the second option in the drop-down and add your second colour to the comments box.  If you experience any problems with the comments box, then as long as you have chosen the two-tone option, our team will contact you before we process your order to check your second choice.

Step Three - Other Info: NOCK SIZE AND SERVING

We make the serving on our recurve strings to suit SMALL GROOVE nocks as standard,

Some models of arrow require 3D super nocks, which only have a large groove.  These are mainly the stiffer arrows required for high weight and draw length.  If you know that you are using 3D super nocks, or other large groove nocks, please tell us in the comments box that you need a large groove serving and we’ll put this on for you.

For our servings we use BCYX-2X material for the end loops, and 62XS for the centre serving.  This can vary with availability, so if this makes a difference to you, please contact us to check what we currently have in use.

Technical information on Strings and String Materials:

All Nitro strings are made using a pre-stretching process that allows us to pre-twist the string to length and then apply the serving whilst the string is under approximately 300lb of tension.  This process virtually eliminates any stretch or “settling in” period, giving increased speed and performance to your shooting.

Please note: To ensure no serving separation, we recommend no more than 6 twists are removed from our starting length.  Twists must always follow the initial direction.
